Whatever hiking option you choose, you are surrounded by a natural mountain world of fabulous scenery. Why not go on a guided hike? That way, you can to climb up to 3,000 metre high summits as safely as possible.
The mountain station of the Kitzsteinhorn is the ideal starting point for many hikes. At 3,029 meters above sea level, this easily reached summit station is the highest in the Salzburg region. Just 200 meters in height separate you from the summit of the Kitzsteinhorn and views of the highest mountains of Austria - among others, the emblematic Grossglockner. Zell am See / Pinzgau offers warm and welcoming hospitality, as is attested by countless farmed and cosy mountain huts.
Popular hiking trails:
- Höhenpromade: This 17.5 km long trail requires stamina and perseverance. Starting at the valley station of Schmittenhöhebahn, it passes the Sonnalm on the Schmittenhöhe before returning via Schüttdorf. Walking time about 7 hrs. Several eateries en-route.
- Round trip to Kaprun: This approximately 10 km pleasant walk is particularly suitable for families. Walking time: about 2 and a half hours.
- Lakefront: A light walk right round Lake Zell with total length of 11 km, ideally suited for walkers. Part of the trail promenades directly along the lakeshore. Walking time: about 3 hours.
- Sisi-trail: Follow in the imperial footsteps of Empress Sisi, who used to wander this trail to enjoy the sunset on the Schmittenhöhe. Starting point: Schmittenhöhe mountain station; Walking time: about 30 minutes
